About the Devine Formula

The Devine formula was originally developed to help estimate medication dosing, but it became a widely used reference for ideal body weight. It calculates a baseline weight for someone 5 feet tall, then adds a fixed amount for every inch above that.

An Estimate, Not a Rule

Ideal weight formulas give a rough reference point only. Healthy weight varies by body frame, muscle mass, and other individual factors, so this number should not be treated as a strict target.
