Understanding Pressure

Pressure is defined as force divided by the area over which that force is applied. The same force spread over a smaller area creates much higher pressure than when spread over a larger area.

Common Pressure Units

Pressure is measured in Pascals in the metric system, where one Pascal equals one Newton per square meter. Standard atmospheric pressure at sea level is about 101,325 Pascals, or one atmosphere.
