What Standard Deviation Tells You

Standard deviation measures how spread out a set of numbers is from the average. A small standard deviation means the values are close to the mean, while a large one means they are more spread out.

How It Is Calculated

Find the mean, then find the average of the squared differences between each number and the mean (the variance), and take the square root of that value to get the standard deviation.
